The Tern Stand is connected to a portable monitor with a magnet. To ensure that the magnet holds the portable display strongly in place you need to stick a metal plate on the back of your device (see the instructions above). The magnet and the metal plate ensure a strong connection, because the magnet has a pull force of 25kg (55lbs).
Yes! Many of our customers use tablets with the Tern Stand when they work remotely. Tablets can be a perfect extension of your laptop's screen, because the software may enable cable free connection.

No, the magnet does not interfere with the electronic components inside the monitor.
While the magnet is strong enough to hold the portable monitor, it does not generate a magnetic field nearly as strong enough to interfere with the monitor's internal electronics. The components inside the portable monitor are too small to be affected by the stand's small neodymium magnet.
Lastly, our portable monitor stand has undergone rigorous testing to meet all safety and performance standards. This includes testing for any potential electromagnetic interference with electronic devices. The results have shown that our magnet does not pose any risk to the functionality or longevity of your monitor.
Yes, it is possible to remove the metal adhesive plate. The metal plate can be "sawed" off with something like fishing line or dental floss. Where have you been all my life? I travel often for work and have used many different types of stands, and gadgets to keep my multi-screen setup slim, light, and extremely useful but nothing has come close to Tern’s magnetic tripod stand. To start off, I was hesitant to purchase this since I've been scammed a few times online with products that have outstanding reviews, only to be fake... This however really is amazing. The quality is a prefect blend of heavy duty in the ball head unit, and lighter weight on the legs and telescoping stand. A lot of thought must have gone into this revision. My only other reservation was whether it would go high enough for my application, since I like my large screen laptop on a stand *see photo*. But, the magnets are SO strong you can place only 3/4 of the contact surface on the bottom of the monitor and it still holds, to get that extra bit of height *also see photos*. All in all its perfect, good job guys.... I don't often write reviews, but this one was worth it. Thanks!
If you work remotely, invest in a portable monitor and a Tern Setups portable monitor stand! I have a LG Gram 16" paired with my Macbook and it has really transformed my remote lifestyle. I was a bit sceptical at first after researching the company, as there are so many fake product websites out there. However, I decided to take the plunge and order one and I’m very glad I did. This is a fantastic piece of kit that allows me to optimise my work setup while on the road. I use three additional USB-C powered monitors: one above my laptop’s native screen and two on the sides and this stand handles the setup perfectly. Great product, easy to use and great for everyday carry. I’ve been using it daily. But is it just me, or does the stand telescope start to slide down after about a month of use? I’m using the XtendTouch XT1610F, which weighs only 1kg (2.2 lbs) — even lighter than the Tern monitor — so I didn’t expect this issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips on how to fix or tighten the stand? I’d really appreciate the help!

I travel often for work and carry an Espresso Pro 17″ display. The original Espresso stand is heavy and keeps the screen too low, so I cannot place it above my laptop. I purchased this monitor stand to solve this. What an amazing portable monitor tripod. I have seen some monitor stands in a few co-working places but they all looked quite unstable. This stand, even though on the heavier side cause it is all solid metal, is very robust, stable, and stays in place how you put it. I am using it daily and can not recommend it enough!
I loved the stand, and I think it will be very useful for me. The product is of excellent quality. Previously, I had another stand that took longer to store because it consisted of two pieces and was quite heavy. This one has a great height, especially if you plan to use it behind a MacBook Pro. I did experience a delay in delivery due to a customs issue, but the seller was very attentive and proactive in resolving it. The package was delayed by a week, but it didn’t affect me at all—on the contrary, I really appreciated the excellent customer service. Highly recommended!
Finally, someone make a tripod for portable monitor! We are a niche audience, we know. I have been looking for so long for this, but sadly and frustratingly, most are made focused for camera, which has its flaws especially with stability issue and the lack of height to the eye level. The TernSetups Tripod is amazing, it is very stable even on relatively heavy portable monitor like mine (1.2KG) and you can adjust the height freely as much as you want! This is indeed a very solid tripod actually designed for a portable monitor!
I'm not one to write reviews but the Tern Monitor stand solves a niche problem so well, I wanted to share my experience. Let's get the obvious out of the way, it's expensive. WIth shipping and a 20% discount, the total to Australia was about $115. With that price tag, I was "hoping" for a premium product, but was slightly sceptical with an unknown brand/product. I'm happy to report that this stand has exceeded all expectations. Like many, I had jimmy-rigged a portable monitor stand referencing posts from Reddit about 2 years ago. While the concept is the same, the design and implementation are premium. So many little issues have been resolved but I'll list the most important. - Perfect for travel. So much smaller and made just fit for purpose, nothing extra. - With the 360 ball hinge, you can point your tripod legs in any direction so they don't hit the back of your laptop - The tripod pullout mechanism is extra stiff (a good thing). My older version would sag over time. - Tall enough for my portable monitor (LG Gram) to rest just above my laptop - It looks so aesthetically pleasing. Overall, just perfect.

Simple to setup and go I'm enjoying using the Tern stand. I love the fact that I can power it from my laptop. Also, my monitor can be screwed into the stand rather than using the magnet. I hadn't realised that was a feature, and I really liked it since I could have the monitor held up higher. It's really light so it's no bother popping it into your bag with the rest of your setup.
Quality Travel Stand I was searching for a stand for my portable monitor for quite a while cause the cover it comes with always collapses and requires additional boxes to lift it up. If you need to set the monitor in portrait position the magnet is not enough strong to keep the monitor in this position .

The stand is incredibly short next to and behind my 15 inch laptop. It makes no sense even if the screen I also purchased was a 16 inch.

I was a little hesitant at the price, but there’s nothing else on the market with this utility. If you want to reduce neck pain by positing the portable above, versus to the side, of your laptop, this is the way. It’s also flexible enough to keep it to the side, either low or high, on either side.
